If you’re reading my blog I can only assume that you did your civic duty in voting early and if you didn’t RUN! You’ve still got time! If there is nothing else you do today but hit your nearest polling place well then I say you’ve accomplished a lot.

I’m trying to decide if the fact that nearly two-thirds of Americans (63 percent) say the future of the nation is a very somewhat significant source of stress, slightly more than perennial stressors like money (62 percent) and work (61 percent), according to the American Psychological Association’s report, “Stress in America. The State of Our Nation”.

Ok….I’ve decided. Not surprised.

I thought it was only appropriate to offer a few Election Day Self Care Tips to get us all through this no matter the outcome.

Sign off social media

Don’t tell me you haven’t done it. Gotten in a heated debate with someone that has the exact opposite views from you. Social media and these feuds are like the black hole that seems to just suck you in then suck you out left with remorse and disgust. I know, I know it’s fun at first having the ability to empower your voice and your opinion but when it does nothing to sway the others it quickly turns into condescending comments and complete disregard for the other person and honestly it just gets us further from the resolution.

Take a warm bath

I mean isn’t this a cure for all? Grab your tablet and head to the bath for some mindless Netflix and let the stress just melt away. I would even approve of a glass of wine and some candles. This tip is guaranteed to work.

Reflect on history

I’m often encouraged of civil rights activist Martin Luther King, the most visible spokesperson and leader in the civil rights movement. Women’s rights activist Susan B. Anthony, born in 1820 and was raised to be independent and outspoken. She believed that men and women should study, live and work as equals and should commit themselves equally to the eradication of cruelty and injustice in the world. Cesar Chavez and Dolores Huerta who co-founded the National Farm Workers Association (later the United Farm Workers, union). There are so many before us, present and those coming that have changed the course of history and we must be reminded of their selfless work and the changes that were made for the better.

Pay it forward (in big or little ways)

Financially support organizations that you believe in or spot someone for lunch and let them know how proud you are of them. If there were ever a time to give it would be today I promise it does make a difference both outwardly in inwardly.

Just let it go

It’s just not worth it to let the anger and sadness consume you. This is no way means you forget; it means you give yourself the space to grow and continue to blossom into the person you are meant to be become.

Happy election day my friends! And may the odds ever be in your favor.
