The Care We Inherit, the Care We Choose
Honoring our Latin American roots and making room for body awareness this October.
Some of our earliest lessons in care come from watching someone else.
The way they make time for us. The familiar ingredients they reach for. The small gestures that say, without a word, “You matter.”
As Hispanic Heritage Month comes to a close and Breast Cancer Awareness Month continues, we are reflecting on what care means at SANARA. The traditions that shape us. The botanicals we bring into our formulas. And the decision to give our own bodies the attention we so readily give to everyone else.
We can carry our roots with us while learning new ways to care for ourselves.
Our Roots Have a Place in Our Rituals

SANARA’s Latin American roots live in the ingredients we choose and the stories we tell.
Chilean Rosehip. Amazonian Cupuaçu. Yerba Maté.
Each has its own identity and its own place in our body care. Rosehip brings lightweight nourishment. Cupuaçu brings rich moisture to dry skin. Yerba Maté anchors a bath ritual that invites us to pause.
For our founder, Rebekah Jasso Jensen, a fifth generation Tejana, creating SANARA was a way to bring her culture into a beauty and wellness space where she wanted to see it represented.
That connection continues beyond a month on the calendar. It is there every time we name an ingredient, share its place in a formula, and invite you to experience it for yourself.
Care Also Means Speaking Up
October holds another personal connection for Rebekah: her experience with breast cancer.
Diagnosed at 39 with no family history, she came to understand how much it matters to notice changes, ask questions, and advocate for follow up.
Her experience shapes SANARA’s invitation to become more familiar with your body. To give yourself time. To take a concern seriously enough to bring it into a conversation with a healthcare professional.
You do not need perfect words to ask for care.
“This feels different.”
“I have noticed a change.”
“What should we do next?”
Those are enough to begin.
Make Room for Attention in the Day You Already Have

A daily ritual does not need to become another responsibility.
It can begin after the shower you already take. As you smooth moisturizer over your legs. In the few moments when you would usually rush to get dressed.
Notice the feel of your skin. Adjust your care where it feels dry. Allow yourself to be present without expecting every moment to become meaningful or productive.
Breast awareness means being familiar with how your breasts usually look and feel and reporting changes to a healthcare professional. It belongs alongside recommended screening and medical care.
A body care ritual can offer a moment of connection. It cannot detect, prevent, or treat breast cancer, and it does not replace screening.
Bring Botanical Care Into Your Everyday

The Care We Carry Forward
We can honor our heritage through the ingredients we choose and the stories we keep sharing.
We can also add to that legacy: asking questions, keeping appointments, accepting support, and making time for our own needs.
The care we inherit can be a beginning. The care we choose becomes part of what we pass on.
Know your body. Trust your intuition. Advocate for your health.
